Hey guys! Well again I have fallen behind on the blog, but trust me, it’s a good thing. It just means that I have been having an amazing time on my travels. On the last post, I left off traveling through Laos, Vietnam, and back to Thailand. Since then I have been up to a lot to say the least.
From Thailand, I went to Cambodia to see the famous Angkor Wat. It is the largest, by size, religious complex in the world. I bought a three day pass for the ruins and spent all three days wondering through ancient temples. My favorite memories of Angkor are the sunsets and afternoon walks when the huge tourist groups had left and I was left with the ruins to myself. The main Angkor Wat temple is one of those buildings where you can just sit for hours and look at how magnificent it really is. It’s very hard to explain but I have been told the Taj Majhal is similar when it comes to awe factor.
From Cambodia, I bought a spur of the moment plane ticket to Kuala Lumper, Malaysia for a Formula One car race. It was a three day event that ended with a huge concert. The power, speed, and loudness of the race cars was impressive. From Malaysia, I took a five hour bus down to Singapore. I met a girl in Laos from Singapore and she showed me around her super clean and modern town. She took my buddies and I to a masquerade ball where we hobbed-nobbed with some of Singapore’s elite. I would have to say that Singapore women are beautiful too so I don’t have too many bad things to say about the place.
From Singapore, I migrated to a new continent, Australia or OZ! I spent the first 4 days in Melbourne and to be honest, really didn’t enjoy it. I think it was combination of bad weather and sticker shock that really got to me. I mean, I was enjoying 20 cent beers in Vietnam and then came to Australia where I paid $8.50 for a pint. As a way to counter the expense of Australia, my buddies and I rented a campervan to drive the east coast of OZ with. This way we wouldn’t have to pay for accommodation, tours, or bus tickets. We started by driving the Great Ocean Road which is Australia’s version of highway 101 in the United States. I visited the 12 Apostles, huge rocks that jut out of the sea and surfed in small seaside towns. We then went back to Melbourne for one day to give it one last chance, and luckily, we had an amazing time out on the town. It took 2 days to get from Melbourne to Sydney where I spent 5 days in my favorite city thus far in OZ. Seeing the Sydney Opera House is surreal as I have seen it so many times in TV shows or magazines. We visited Bondi, Coogee, and Manly beach, which are basically the main beaches of Sydney. We spent a night in the city and had another amazing time out on the town. From Sydney, I moved onto Byron Bay, a huge hotspot for backpackers. Byron has a very laid back feel and has a demographic that I fit in very well with. I’m currently in Surfer’s Paradise, a big city south of Brisbane on the sea. I spent the day today surfing in the warm Pacific Ocean and shredded some waves, or at least attempted to.
So guys, that basically gets you caught up on my whereabouts. Im planning on going back to Byron Bay in the future as well as Brisbane, Frasier Island, the Whitsundays, and Cairns. From there, I’ll probably move onto New Zealand before I head to South Africa for the World Cup in early June! The highlights ahead are going to the largest sand island in the world (Frasier) and doing some four wheeling, diving in the Great Barrier Reef, and sailing the Whitsunday Islands. So I’d have to say I don’t have a lot to complain about. Life is good! Until the next time, goodbye from Australia.
